“SCAB.”

Rio is currently writing a play inspired by their time as a property guardian in 2022. The play seeks out themes like class, queerness, the choices we make to get what we want, and what we can sacrifice to get there.

“Alice and Rosh have returned to the guardianship they shared to protest its immediate demolition. In the building’s final 40 minutes, old woulds get reopened and new ones are created - will they scab over in time to save both their relationship and the home they shared?”

Described as rich, dynamic, evocative and raw, this piece will explore young people and their disenfranchisement, the rise of hyper-intellectualism, and London’s desperate housing crisis.

“BurgerWorks” (WORKING TITLE)

“Can you make a morally good choice in a system that actively kills thousands of Americans every year?”

What happens when five employees of a rundown Pennsylvanian burger chain gets trapped with a man they presume to be a killer? What choices will they make in the name of «justice?» Will they turn in a man who might be innocent, a man who might even be the answer to their crisis?

Using the 2024 arrest of Luigi Mangione as a starting point, Rio seeks to explore small town fanaticism, religious morality, political upheaval and revolution in the time of the internet - through an abusrdist but human angle.

BurgerWorks centers the american healthcare system, the labour class of Pennsylvania, identity politics, and good old American patriotism.
